Clove Buds

Size: 4oz

Native to the Moluccas in Indonesia, Syzygium aromaticum is a highly aromatic tree that produces fragrant flower buds known as cloves.

Cloves are widely cultivated throughout parts of Asia, Africa, and South America, and have been an integral herb in the spice trade for thousands of years.

Clove remains a popular ingredient in baking, mulled wine, chai tea, and herbal formulations.  More recently, clove oil has been employed for its beneficial properties in dentistry.

Cloves are not only a popular spice used in various cuisines but also offer several health benefits due to their rich nutritional profile and bioactive compounds. Below are some of the key benefits associated with cloves:

1. High in Antioxidants Cloves are packed with antioxidants, which help combat oxidative stress in the body. The primary antioxidant compound found in cloves is eugenol, which has been shown to reduce free radicals that can lead to chronic diseases such as heart disease and cancer.

2. Anti-inflammatory Properties The eugenol in cloves also possesses anti-inflammatory properties. This can help lower inflammation throughout the body, potentially reducing the risk of inflammatory diseases like arthritis and assisting in managing symptoms associated with these conditions.

3. Blood Sugar Regulation Research suggests that cloves may help regulate blood sugar levels. Compounds found in cloves, such as nigricin, have been shown to improve insulin sensitivity and may assist in maintaining stable blood glucose levels when combined with a balanced diet.

4. Oral Health Benefits Clove oil has been traditionally used for its antibacterial properties, particularly for oral health. It can help reduce bacteria in the mouth, contributing to better oral hygiene and potentially alleviating toothache due to its numbing effect.

5. Digestive Health Cloves may aid digestion by promoting the production of digestive enzymes and reducing gas and bloating. Additionally, they have been studied for their potential protective effects against stomach ulcers caused by Helicobacter pylori bacteria.

6. Bone Health Cloves contain manganese, an essential mineral involved in bone formation and maintenance. Some animal studies suggest that eugenol may enhance bone density, although more research is needed to confirm this benefit in humans.

7. Liver Function Support Preliminary studies indicate that cloves might support liver health by reducing signs of liver cirrhosis and fatty liver disease through the action of eugenol.

8. Potential Cancer Protection Some research indicates that eugenol may have protective effects against certain types of cancer by inhibiting tumor growth and inducing apoptosis (programmed cell death) in cancer cells.

Organically Grown

Organic foods are grown on land that has been free from the use of synthetic fertilizers, growth regulators, insecticides or herbicides for at least three years. Before a product can be labeled Certified Organic, farmers and processors must meet certain requirements.
